Veerey Di Wedding Movie Reviews

Veere Di Wedding: Bits of Realism and Objectification

Veere Di Wedding, directed by Shashanka Ghosh, is a Bollywood film that brought a breath of fresh air to the industry with its bold and unapologetic approach. Released in 2018, the movie revolves around four friends – Kalindi, Avni, Sakshi, and Meera – as they deal with relationships, marriage, and societal expectations.

The film is widely praised for its realistic portrayal of modern women and their struggles in an urban setting. It explores various aspects of the characters’ lives, including their careers, friendships, love lives, and familial responsibilities. The story delves into the complexities of these women’s lives, showcasing their strengths, vulnerabilities, and growth.

However, while Veere Di Wedding addresses important issues faced by women in today’s society, it has also been criticized for its objectification of women. The film includes several scenes that showcase the characters in a sexually explicit manner, which some argue undermines its message of female empowerment. The dichotomy between portraying women as bold and independent, yet objectifying them on screen, raises questions about the film’s intentions.

Nevertheless, Veere Di Wedding remains a noteworthy film for its realistic portrayal of contemporary women and the challenges they face. It sparks important conversations about societal expectations, relationships, and the choices women make. The movie serves as a reminder that women can be strong, independent, flawed, and empowered all at the same time.

While it is essential to acknowledge the bits of realism and progressive themes explored in Veere Di Wedding, it is equally important to critique and reflect on the objectification depicted in certain scenes. By initiating such discussions and debates, we can strive towards a more inclusive and empowering representation of women in cinema.

Well, it’s not a chick flick, as the cast calls it. Yes, we talk about the most hyped Bollywood movie in the current times, Veere Di Wedding. An all female-led Veere Di Wedding stars Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania. The movie is hogging the limelight everywhere these days majorly because of being one-of-a-kind female-driven film. At a time when it takes a superstar, an over repeated rom-com script and some item numbers to get hits at the box office, Veere Di Wedding is an anomaly that we as an audience have hardly seen over the silver screen.

Yes, it does have prominent faces like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Swara Bhasker. Shikha Talsania too, who is a new face for some but a known face for her web series fans. Now that doesn’t take away from the fact extraordinary acting skills that the entire cast of the movie possesses. Also, the man of the movie, Sumeet Vyas, who isn’t actively promoting the movie with the ‘Veeres’ has our attention, solely because of the actor he is. He might not have made a mark for himself in the industry with his movies to date yet but he is already one for his hit web series, Permanent Roommates. The colossal potential that the star cast holds doesn’t make us miss on the story of the movie that revolves around the new-age Indian woman. The trailer itself sparked out exhilarating vibes and sadly, we just couldn’t tag it into the category of a woman-centric movie. The trailer speaks loud enough of the bond these four girlfriends share. There are powerhouse performers, some cuss words and some peculiar objectification but surely it has bits of relatability and it has further left the masses excited for the final show at the silver screen.

Helmed by Shashanka Ghosh, the movie has already created much hype in the market and is expected to get in a humungous footfall at the box office. However, the team is leaving no stone unturned for the promotions all across the nation. We caught up with the ‘Veeres’ in the Capital today and the inseparable bond that the cast shared left us in all smiles. Well, the squad was dressed to kill for the promotions today in Delhi and we were all eyes!

Talking about her comeback during the promotions today, Kareena Kapoor Khan shared that she is happy to be back at work. She said, “The experience has been absolutely amazing and I am really happy to be a part of a movie like Veere Di Wedding that has a different language. It is a first time for me and I am really excited to see the reaction of my fans. I am sure they will love it.”

Newly-married Sonam Kapoor Ahuja also shared why the team is tagging Veere Di Wedding as ‘Not A Chick Flick’. Sonam said, “Chick Flick is a label where all women-centric films are being put in. We don’t have genres where women are concerned. We don’t want to be labelled. It is a movie about four friends which is for both men and women. Rhea, who is producing the movie told me that I am not just making a movie about chicks. We don’t want to be put in a box.”

Clearly, with Sonam’s statement, we are assuming that the flick is going to give us something out of the box on June 1. Amid formula and content-driven movies, we have Veere Di Wedding that just can’t be looked upon as a feminist movie. Though the music is still getting a bundle of mixed reviews, the trailer has a sense of realism. Our expectations are on a rise with each update from the movie but the wait for the final preview is still 6 days long. That’s all from us till the time we get you more updates from this unapologetic story of four young urban women. Stay tuned!
