Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Central Trade Unions Explore Joint Protests Possibility

Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a United Front of Farm Unions and 10 Central Trade Unions have agreed on a joint protest, combining their demands and planning common actions. The decision was taken at a meeting of representatives from both sides on Monday, but will need to be sanctioned by SKM at its general body meeting on Tuesday.

In a politically significant meeting, even those [the farm unions] who only joined the agitation on the farm laws are recognizing that this is part of a wider reform package, as the government is openly saying. So we must also fight it together

During the General Body Meeting of the SKM on Tuesday, it will explore the possibility of jointly campaigning against the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections. Some members have already chalked out such plans, but others are not too keen.
The meeting concluded a joint protest campaign, with five common demands: three from the farmers side and two from the workers side

  • Repeal of the Farm Reform Laws (Farmer’s Demand)
  • Withdrawal of Electricity Bill (Farmer’s Demand)
  • Legal Guarantee for MSP (Farmer’s Demand)
  • To withdraw the Labour Codes (From Labour Side)
  • Stop Privatization (From Labours, Trade Unions)
